Discrimination as a law

Once again the topic of discrimination is being discussed all over the world.  But this time, this is not being dealt with the same way as usual. The world was not speaking about how to stop discrimination against certain races or sexual choices, but about the discrimination that all Latinos were about to suffer from.  Some years ago when the running to become president of one of the most powerful country in the whole world started, a businessman decided to ´present his candidature to be the next president of The United States of America.

Donald trump is a very well-know businessman. He is believed to be an extremely clever and visionary person as regards big businesses. Even though does he continue to have that fame, on the recent months, he started to be considered one of the hugest xenophobic people in the world. On his way to be elected president of North America, he began to question the immigration regulations. Trump stated that all Latinos should be immediately away of the country. He declared that immigrants were the reason of all the American citizens’ problems. Despite the fact that this statement triggered huge anti-discrimination response on the social media, this was just the top of the iceberg. Some days after this quite alarming declaration, Donald promised to build a wall between Mexico and EE. UU. Not only would Mexicans be put away of the country, but also they will have to pay for this barrier.

Even though all these declarations triggered numerous parties and communities to stand against this awful person, I think that what should be of paramount importance is the fact that Donald Trump can be the president of America. Let’s think about the consequences of him winning the elections. He is already one of the most powerful people in the whole world as regards business and money. If the country decides to vote for him as the next president, this will imply that he would have the possibility of becoming all his unpleasant ideas true. I think that at this point is important to state two historical events that changed the course of history. The last person who believed his race better than the rest was Adolf Hitler. And this terrible idea led to The Holocaust, one of the greatest devastation of the human beings. The second one is The Berlin Wall which marked the division of a country just for political interests.

After having said all this, I want to say that I really expect that all those statements were just promises and lies to win the election. In the case that these are really his beliefs, I expect for the future of the whole world that he can change his way of thinking.  

Who are the beasts?

Some days ago I came across an awful set of pictures. These depict a famous couple hunting several wild animals. Apart from the fact that these people killed animals, they were joyful of having done that. It was after that piece of new that I came to think: who are in fact the beast?

I keep on reflecting about that because I read all the time pieces of news and articles which express the worries of having certain animals as pets. These worries and misgivings, as regards having these animals as pets, are due to the fact that some animals are considered to be extremely dangerous and some other particularly wild. Every time I came across this particular type of pieces of   news I confirm that animals are just as you raised them.  If you teach them to attack, they will do it. But if teach them to be nice with people, they will act like that. The attitude of these animals has to do with the way they are taught by humans. As well as these pets, the animals which are considered to be “wild” are not as feral as humans insist on make them look like.

Some days ago I also watched a video of some lions which recognize a human as part of their pride.  They were playing and enjoying spending time together. These lions were acting almost as if they were cats with this person.  After watching this video I confirmed my assumption: animals are as the owner/ human teaches them. 

Following with my opinion as regards animals, I cannot believe what was on those unpleasant pictures. This couple went to a hunting trip. They hunted several beautiful animals and then posed for the pictures. I cannot simply describe them. They are disgusting

After watching these pictures and the video: can you think who the beasts are? I firmly believe that the ones we should be aware of are not animals, but humans. Human beings have shown how cruel and brutal they can be. They kill for the sake of killing. They do that only to show that they have the power to do it, to show that they are superior to animals. But at the end, they show that they are the nastiest living being on earth. 

What about Passion?

I know that probably I won’t be saying anything new about this topic, but I have arrived at a conclusion that I find amazing: how a whole country can become one single thing just for something as simple as a football match. I know that probably when reading this blog, you will not understand which my point on writing this is, but last night, when I was watching Argentina vs. Peru football match, I came to think how passion can change everything.

I come to the conclusion that passion is what leads all human beings to achieve their goals or aims.  Passion is that necessary fuel in our lives to obtain whatever we want. Last night, I realized that it does not mean only that, but also something that unifies hearts. I am saying this because we are used to listening and watching everyday in our lives divisions: River vs. Boca, Peronistas vs. Radicales, Macristas vs. Kirchneristas, pro-death penalty groups vs. human rights groups, pro-abortion groups vs. catholic groups. These are just some of the divisions that we observe in our daily lives. But do you know what? When Argentina is playing against any country it does not matter which your political, social or religious beliefs are, we are all Argentineans. Suddenly, you get to see a kirchneristas hugging a macrista yelling, screaming and celebrating because Argentina scored. It was in that point that I came to think: why are we all the time fighting and marking the differences between one group and the other? Why are we constantly defining ourselves in order to detach their beliefs from ours? Why? If when it comes to Argentina we are sharing and enjoying the same feeling. That is the answer: we are passionate. We feel passion for our country; we are in love with our colors. 

Basically, all human beings need to believe in something. It looks almost impossible to believe that someday we will be thinking, desiring and wanting the same things, but we are sure that we have passion. The same feeling is what makes us, as society, commit mistakes, believe in diverse concepts and follow different trends. I dare to say that this characteristic is unique and innate of Argentinean people. I have never seen other countries or communities believe in something as profoundly as we do. At this point, you will probably keep on asking which the main idea of this blog is. The point here is not to make you be less passionate or to disbelieve in what you already believe or follow, but instead to make you realize that divisions are part of our daily lives, that we are getting used to seeing them, and that is part of Argentina. If you don’t disagree with your friends, they are not friends. If you don’t argue with your siblings, they are not your siblings. These are some of the Argentinean sayings about relationships.  The thing here is that we should think differently, that we must believe in different things, but we also have to accept and understand other’s point of view. How do we do that? Not by changing their beliefs, but just by looking at that without violence and mistreat. By doing that, we are demonstrating that we are sure of our position. It is because of that that I decided to write this post, not because of the football match or because of Argentina not winning the match, but because I was able to see that at the end we all have something in common; we all love something; we are passionate. If a football match can help us understand that it does not matter which our beliefs are or how different we are we should respect each other. I strongly believe that we should thank Argentina for that.

 

Parents for election

What do you think about adoption? Are you in favour? Are you against?

Just think about that some moments, then answer. I think that adoption is one of the greatest humanitarian and lovely acts that a person or couple could do. So amazing to think that these people are giving the possibility to a child or children to have a family conformed through love and not only a genetic bond. I am almost sure that, as a reader, wish the same I do: the happiness of those vulnerable children. So amazing as it may seem there are some people who are against the adoption. They are not against the adoption in itself, but against the adoption made by a gay couple.

Such unfavourable the prejudices are that society is not able to see what is beyond the “gay thing”. Considering the great numbers generated by statistics, I think that the sexual election of the person who adopts these children should not be the important fact, but instead who the adoptive father/mother is and how responsible this person is. That means that we as society should be worried about heterosexual people who decide to adopt children and once they have them under their custody, they do not take care of these poor kids. That is when children’s rights should be of paramount importance. We have to open our mind to this new type of family. We should be able to see that love is love regardless of the sexual election of each person, it does not matter who conforms the couple at the end they just longing for the same that any other couple: to form a family through love.

What is wrong if two people want to form a family? Some people may argue that the fact that these people have a different sexual orientation may lead to these kids being also gay. Such a lie! They also state that gay people are not able to have a baby since God is punishing them because of their sexual election.   Some years ago in Cordoba a gay woman adopted four children who were abandoned by their biological mother. She raised and educated them. When these children were consulted about the role that this lady had in their lives, they only said that she was their mother. None of them seemed worried about her sexual orientation; none of them paid attention to what she has decided. They only noticed that she took care of them when their real, biological and heterosexual mother did not.

I assume that at this point, after knowing about this story, it is worthless to keep adding words to this topic. It seems obvious, at least to me, that adoption is the most generous act that people can do regardless of their sex or sexual orientation. A family is made up of love and love is love. 

                                        

                                        

A social issue, not a women issue.

Every time I watch the news on television or I read a newspaper, I find it at a loss of words. Dozens of women are killed every day in Argentina and what is more nothing is being done to stop that.  It looks to me unthinkable to see a woman reduced to a simple shadow behind a man just because he does not have the security needed to be in a healthy relationship.

I cannot affirm that all the men are violent and that they cannot change, but I firmly believe that if there is no harsh punishment for the ones to blame, this will continue growing and getting even worse.  I know that some people may believe that I am saying and posting this because I am a woman and probably they are right. Partly because I cannot believe what is happening to us as a gender, but also because I do not understand what is happening in our society. In which moment has this became in a war in which women are the most affected? 

Historically, our gender has had to overcome different obstacles and to fight interminable struggles to obtain the “same” rights that men have. Even though it is said that women have the same rights, you keep on waking up to read the type of newspaper headlines that I came across this morning: “I want to report that I have killed my wife”. Can you believe this headline?

What on earth has gone over his mind to kill his wife? I think that the worst part of this is the fact that he appeared in the police station confessing a homicide as if it was just another simple matter. Although murders are not another plane act, these types of events are sadly becoming extremely common and frequent. I firmly believe that is time to produce a change. It is time to raise awareness about this nefarious reality that many women are undergoing right now. Matter

Despite the fact of analyzing this actuality as a psychological problem of the men that commit this type of miserable crimes, it is also a social problem. It is undeniable that the violence against women is a problem which has grown during the last years in a problematic way.  It would be amazing if we could find a quick solution to this problematic.  Raising awareness about this issue may be a good way to face this trouble in society.  Reinforcing the equality between sexes will lead us as society to a better reality.

The beauty of being a misfit

As incredible as it may sound, Lidia is proud of being a misfit in this society. At the beginning of the talk, it is almost impossible to guess just by looking at her which her topic will be. Lidia explains and exemplifies in a few words that she has been a misfit in this society her entire life. The different situations that she has had to overcome have made her believe that she does not belong to this society.

She starts the talk by telling the audience the reason of her being there. Yuknavitch describes her life as a sequence of bad experiences which lead her to believe that she does not deserve the opportunity of turning into a famous writer. What makes Lidia be a misfit is the fact that she had a stillborn baby.  After that, she says that it was impossible for her to be as she was before.

During the talk, Lidia intends to make people realize that it is not bad to be a misfit in this society. At some point all of us are not fulfilling nor all the expectancies of this society, neither our own expectancies.  When doing so, we can feel that we do not deserve it and that is what makes a fell as a misfit on the current society. In order to make the audience understand her feelings, she shared with them the experiences she had been through. All those experiences made Lidia believe that she did not deserve what was happening to her.

 “The myth of the misfit” is the theory that she uses to explain how she decided to believe in herself.  She expresses that it is on the worst moments that you should believe in yourself, that you should believe that you are beautiful. She affirms that the key to accept yourself is to give voice to the story inside you.  Her story is the faithful evidence that not all of us will go through the same path to achieve our dreams. Probably your way will be different, but she expresses that that is the beauty of being a misfit: being able to tell your story.

I think that she achieves the aim of this talk, she convinces people of accepting and believing that you deserve each one of the opportunities that appears in your life, otherwise it will not be in front of you. I dare to say that she is the perfect example to follow when talking about misfit.
